Ethiopia - Lower Omo Valley & Bale Mountains National Park
Starts and ends at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - 7 days
Located in the southwestern corner of Ethiopia, the Lower Omo Valley is a place like no other, one that stunned us in all its cultural significance.
This remote and rugged land has been a cultural crossroads for millennia and is still home to a number of tribal communities that have thrived here for centuries. Incidentally, this is also where the oldest human remains have been found (dating back nearly 2.5 million years!), which granted the area UNESCO-heritage recognition.
The Lower Omo Valley is also one of Africa’s poorest regions and one where conscious tourism can make a tremendous impact. You will visit some of the Omo Valley tribes guided by local experts who will help you go deep into the culture and traditions of each, and will facilitate a genuine, respectful interaction with the communities.
The cultural diversity you will experience between each tribe is simply astonishing, and will probably leave you pondering over Humanity for a long time after your visit.
This trip ends with a few days exploring the spectacular Bale Mountain National Park, with magnificent forests clinging to the sides of deep valleys, and high peaks piercing the horizon.
This tour is operated by private charter plane throughout.
