Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara Tented Camp

Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara Tented Camp is situated on the western border of the Masai Mara Game Reserve in southwestern Kenya. Set on a private concession leased from Maasai landlords, the camp lies at the base of the Oloololo Escarpment just below the spot where Out of Africa’s most famous scene was shot. The camp overlooks the plains of the Masai Mara and lies directly in the path of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra. Each of the 40 Hemingway-style safari tents (20 superior tents, 8 superior view tents and 12 classic tents) features an en-suite bathroom. The tents are spacious and have a shower, hand basin and water closet. Each tent has two extra-length three-quarter beds. Each luxury tent has a double bed that can convert to twins. The guest area includes a reception, safari shop, bar/sitting room and indoor/outdoor dining area, all of which overlook endless, game-filled plains and are shaded by a dense forest canopy, with the Oloololo Escarpment in the background. There is a large sparkling swimming pool set among trees, surrounded by lawns and breathtaking views. Included activities are morning and afternoon game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles, bird watching and daily lectures by a Maasai naturalist. Optional excursions at an additional cost include night game drives on the lodge’s private concession, guided walking trails up and along the Oloololo Escarpment, a Maasai community visit, sundowners at a location with spectacular views across the Mara and hot air ballooning.
